T4 coal-loader edges closer to approval PLANS for a controversial new coal loader on Kooragang Island reached the next stage of approval yesterday but attracted fresh criticism from Hunter environment groups. The T4 coal loader would allow an additional 70 million tonnes of coal to be exported from Newcastle each year, when fully operational. Port Waratah’s proposed terminal will now face the Planning Assessment Commission after the Department of Planning and Environment found the project could proceed.
